Back-to-School Donations for Orphans, IDPs, and the Less Privileged
On September 7, 2024, the Inspired Women Organisation (IWO) held a humanitarian back-to-school donations program in New Quarter, Tiko. This initiative was launched following a survey and questionnaire conducted by the IWO team, which revealed that many internally displaced persons (IDPs), orphans, and less privileged children in the area were unable to start the school year.
Identifying the Need
The survey uncovered that numerous caretakers, many of whom were employees of the CDC Rubber Plantation, had gone unpaid for years, leaving them unable to provide the basic school supplies needed for their children. The program was planned to support 30 children from these vulnerable groups, but the information spread widely, and 70 children eventually showed up, demonstrating the overwhelming need for such interventions.
Distribution of School Supplies
Each child received essential school items, including:
- School bags
- Exercise books
- Pencils and pens
- Rulers
- Sharpeners
- Erasers
Despite the larger-than-expected turnout, every child went home equipped with the necessary tools to begin their school year.
Challenges Faced
The unexpectedly high number of beneficiaries stretched the program’s financial resources, presenting a challenge in meeting the needs of all participants. However, the smiles on the faces of the children and the gratitude from their families reaffirmed the importance of the program.
Call to Action
Education is a fundamental right, yet many children are denied this opportunity due to circumstances beyond their control. By supporting programs like this, we can ensure that no child is left behind. Join us in making a difference! Your donations and support can help us reach even more children in need and give them the chance to succeed.
